Beachview Breakfast & Grill was our first stop in Fort Walton Beach. Though the name may be a little misleading, they do serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Being on stilts with parking underneath, the restaurant exterior had a classy and classic beach look. The dining area was an open-air deck that was very laid back and relaxing. Seating was surprisingly limited, but it made for a cozier and quieter atmosphere, at least for breakfast. While I had previously seen several reviews commenting on amazing views, I would have to disagree. The name of the restaurant was a little misleading in regard to the setting as well. I had envisioned a full-scale view of the beach, but it was not located on direct waterfront and had only a slither of a beach view. While a glimpse of blue ocean and rolling waves in the distance is better than a view of buildings and parking lots, I would not consider the view from the restaurant as amazing. Nevertheless, Beachview is still apparently a popular venue for outdoor weddings and other private events. When you look out from the restaurant deck towards the beach, you will see their designated event area. It is also relatively small. As far as the food is concerned, we arrived a little after opening time for breakfast. There were only a few other people there, so we were able to take in the fresh air and gentle breezes without much disruption. The breakfast menu had a good blend of classic and healthy options as well as creative additions. Each dish was made to order with fresh ingredients in high end style. My beloved and I shared the French Toast and the Brisket Benedict. The French Toast was made with artisan brioche bread and covered with a cinnamon corn flake crust. It was topped with a sprinkling of powdered sugar, fresh berries, a few dollops of whipped cream and drizzled with maple syrup. The presentation was easy on the eyes, a.k.a. temptingly beautiful. While the corn flakes added an interesting texture to the dish, I’m not sure it added much in the way of flavor. I wanted to love it, but I didn’t find it to be a memorable experience. The Brisket Benedict was a unique creation. It included house smoked beef brisket smothered by 2 soft poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, and a few crispy fried onions. Benedicts are typically served on an English muffin, but this rare find was served on a buttermilk biscuit. The dish was served with a side of fresh fruit. The brisket was smokey and tender. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly, but had an unexpected tangy taste as they were prepared using vinegar. The warm hollandaise was well balanced in flavor and texture, while the crispy fried onions added a little more depth to every bite. However, I did not care for the biscuit. I did not like the density of the texture and quite frankly missed the traditional English muffin style benedict. The fruit consisted of grapes, pineapple, and melons. It was your typical tasting fresh fruit accompaniment. Although I cannot give a rousing endorsement of either dish, there was absolutely nothing terribly wrong with them either. Overall, they tasted pretty good. They just did not have that wow factor for me. Would I visit again? Possibly, just to give lunch a try.
