Our next breakfast spotlight in Destin is Ruby Slipper. The concept for this restaurant is absolutely genius in my opinion. Have you ever wished you could have a real authentic restaurant brunch any day of the week? Well, Ruby Slipper has answered that call. From coffees to cocktails and bennies (benedicts) to sammies (sandwiches), their menu hosts many of the treasured options that come with the ideal brunch spread. Ruby Slipper is a chain that was started in New Orleans. In addition to Louisiana and Florida, they have locations in Alabama, Tennessee, North Carolina, and South Carolina operating under the name Ruby Sunshine. While the unique creation of smoked gouda grits enticed me to Crackings, I must admit the breakfast experience I was most anxiously awaiting to try was the White Chocolate Bread Pudding Pancakes at Ruby Slipper. Let me tell you. They did not disappoint. I am not a pancake traditionalist. My go-to breakfast indulgence is typically French toast or waffles. But they had me at bread pudding. I am a huge bread pudding connoisseur to say the least, so there was no way I was leaving Destin without trying this mastermind creation. While I was concerned that the white chocolate would make the pancakes too sweet, that was not the case. It was unquestionably perfection with every bite. It did not even require maple syrup. The texture of the pancakes was spot on. Just thinking about it now makes me want to hop in the truck and make a beeline back to Destin. But I digress. All of Ruby Slipper’s pancakes are served ala carte. I ordered chicken sausage patties on the side. They were a good savory pairing to compliment the sweetness of the pancakes. I also tried one of their iced coffees. They are made in-house with a beautiful presentation. While I wouldn’t say I was a fan, I believe coffee is the single most difficult beverage to please the masses. I am sure there is a select group out there that would find it outstanding. It just simply wasn’t my flavor profile. As far as the ambiance of the restaurant goes, it was mostly clean and laid out like a typical chain restaurant. The dining room was huge with a conservative, but tasteful, décor of bold red and gold. Needless to say, I would most definitely recommend dining at any of the Ruby Slipper or Ruby Sunshine locations if you get the opportunity. The food was outstanding, and the menu had a wide selection of options to satisfy the pickiest of eaters. I look forward to having those White Chocolate Bread Pudding Pancakes again and getting to try some of their other specialties. An added fun fact for all of you who travel with your canines, Ruby Slipper has a “DogGone Good Menu” for your furry travel companions.
